A small group of Christians got together in 1977 in hopes of establishing an independent Baptist church in Burnside. A group of ten of these individuals went to Midland Baptist Church in Midland, Ohio to request their congregation to mother this work in Burnside, Kentucky. They agreed and Jordan Independent Baptist Mission was formed.

The mission began to meet in individual homes until they rented an old bank building on French Avenue in Burnside. Within the first year the mission had grown to 23 members. Jordan Independent Baptist Church was organized on October 4, 1978. Brother Elijah Wood was elected as the first pastor of the church.

During the next seven years, the church saw 5 pastors come and go, as well as, Bro. Elijah Wood elected the second time in January 1985 and then resigned again in May 1986. It was during this period that the church voted to purchase the lot on Lakeshore Drive where the current church building resides. The next few months Brother Howard Lee would serve the church as Interim Pastor. Brother Billy Miller was asked to preach in the church in September 1986. On September 14, 1986, he was voted in as their pastor. He was ordained by Saline Baptist Church and has celebrates his 36th year as pastor of Jordan Baptist Church in 2022.

In 1987 the church took on its first missionary, Bro. Raymond Sorrells, as well as, having its first revival service the same year in which five members were added to the church. In April 1987, the church began digging a basement on the lot purchased the previous year. It was completed in November 1987. The church building construction began in January 1988.

On November 1992, the church voted to build a building for the establishment of Jordan Christian Academy for the school year of 1993. Bro. Don Coggins was voted as the school’s first principal. There had been several additions onto the building which presently has approximately 60 students.

From a humble beginning of a few Christians wanting to see an independent Baptist church in Burnside, the church has seen hundreds saved, many graduate the Christian Academy and go on to successful lives, graduated several preachers, supported many missionaries all around the world and still maintain a loving, active core membership.

In all that has been and will be accomplished, we maintain the truth that without our Lord Jesus Christ we can do nothing (John 15:5). We offer all praise and honor to Him who has made all these things possible!
